On The Cedar Room…

“I’d had the idea to do a cover of the Cedar Room long before I heard about this project, but the problem I kept running into was that I liked the original too much. It’s perfect the way it is. I had to think about it on and off for about two months before I finally found a direction I wanted to take.

The Cedar Room is a very spiritual song to me. It’s one of those that seems to speak to the innermost unknown places within all our hearts. I wanted to expand upon that. I wanted to make a song that spoke from the middle of my being.

In the end, I ended up with this seven minute monster that can only be classified as shoe-gaze or neo-psychedelia. I realized early on that my version wouldn’t appeal to all Doves fans. But the more I got into it, the more I found myself caring less and less about what people would think and more about how amazing the song was making me feel. It was truly a freeing and uplifting experience. And to me, that’s what it’s all about.”
